A hét napjai – The Days of the Week

In English the days of the week are listed starting with Sunday, but in Hungarian we start with Monday. In Hungarian language the name of the weeks starts with small initial letter: hétfő not Hétfő.

hétfő – Monday
kedd – Tuesday
szerda – Wednesday
csütörtök – Thursday
péntek – Friday
szombat – Saturday
vasárnap – Sunday

Rövidítések/Abbrevations: H, K, Sze, Cs, P, Szo, V

Milyen nap van ma? – What day is today?
Ma kedd van. – Today is Tuesday.
Milyen nap lesz holnap? – What day is tomorrow?
Holnap szerda lesz. – Tomorrow is Wednesday.
Milyen nap volt tegnap? – What day was yesterday?
Tegnap hétfő volt. – Yesterday was Monday.

ma – today
tegnap – yesterday
holnap – tomorrow
nap – day
hétköznap – weekday
hétvége – weekend
szabadnap – free day/day off
pihenőnap – rest day
jövő hét – nex week

Mikor? kérdésre a válasz:/The answer to the question When? is: hétfőn, kedden, szerdán, csütörtökön, pénteken, szombaton, vasárnap(Ø).

Mikor leszel szabadságon? (When will you be on holiday?) – Jövő héten, hétfőtől péntekig. (On next week, from Monday till Friday.)

hétfőtől – from Monday
-ig – till, until
péntekig – till Friday

In Hungarian language we don’t use he or she, we simple just say ő.

Mi diákok vagyunk. / We are students.
Ti diákok vagytok. / You are students.
